CT: What do you do for a living?
JG: I run a Family freight forwarding company called JG International Freight Corp., Inc. www.jgintl.com We mainly Export and Import to the Philippines but have had the good fortune of being able to expand our reach to shipping all over the world through our network of forwarding agents. Also our shipments are mainly commercial quantity and involve large items like Vehicles, as opposed to Parcel like UPS, Fedex and DHL.

CT: How long have you been vaping?
JG: Since January 25, 2013…

CT: Why did you choose to try vaping in the first place?
JG: My cousin handed me an Ego Passthru after I told him of all my failed attempts with E-cigs like Blu, N-Joy, and E-Hookah. I still didn’t love it enough to quit smoking until I had my 1st Vape Rev experience with a previous Vape Rev juice called Peaches and Cream. The whole VapeRev experience was right up my alley…Check my Yelp review…this is my vaping home.

CT: What is the most appealing aspect of vaping in your opinion?
JG: I love the community. I have had the good fortune to have made so many friends thru vaping and have enjoyed Facebook-ing, IG-ing, and chatting it up with people all over the world about a shared interest…Vaping.

CT: What is your favorite setup to use?
JG: My SS Chi You and a Doc Dave Steam Turbine Ti. But also my pricest and most inquired and sought after…I get offers on the Steam Turbine on a daily basis. I think it’s up to $600+ on FB I have been offered and there is a rumor there is only 30 of these…or so I keep getting told. Then I tell them, well I walked in and bought it at VapeRev.

CT: What are your favorite three flavors currently?
JG: Melon Head, Karma Cream, Strawberry Granita

CT: What do you do in free time?
JG: I am a Dad 1st before anything. I take my son to his Jiu Jitsu, swimming and tutoring lessons. And the baby does swimming also. Then for fun we ride bikes a lot on the Strand. Then of course I spend time in my Hobby, Vaping…

CT: How many kids/how old?
JG: We have 2 children: Yvo (son) 8 years and Alyx (girl) 2.5 years

CT: What do they feel/think about your vaping?
JG: My son thinks it’s cool…this is a mixed bag for me and not enjoyed by my wife. I always try to explain to him that his lungs are clean and that Daddy was not smart and when he was young (16 y.o.) my friends and I thought that smoking cigarettes was cool and we have discussions about how I got addicted to them and he knows very well just by the smell that smoking is bad. And fortunately the world has changed and they advertise it as bad. And if it’s on TV it must be true So yeah I tell him though that Daddy vapes I would prefer that he not pickup anything and do his best to be athletic and stay away from anything he does not have to do.

d. Wifey still on the fence towards vaping, but thanks to Celina’s conversation with me about Vaping; which I explained to my wife, I was able to get my first Mods and look where I am now…
e. I just like to explain if I didn’t vape I would most likely be smoking cigarettes, and in the industry I am in where work is 24 hours a day issues happen all over the world requiring my direct involvement, stress is inevitable and cigarettes is an evil that seems to help with stress.

CT: Have you turned people onto vaping, if so who?
JG: Yes…My sister, my sister in law, a good number of my friends. I have given away all my joyetech products because I paid it forward with cartos and vivi novas to these people to get them started… And almost everywhere I go, because I use very appealing Mods, people always talk to me about what it is. It is almost for sure if I pull out a Chi You and Steam Turbine and blow out a plume, someone will talk to me out of nowhere (in a good way) and I will explain vaping and explain that if they smoke they should really look into vaping and try starter kits unless they really want to go straight to the same level that I have in front of them. And I always say I have not had a single puff since Jan 25 and I am not going back.

CT: How do you describe vaping to someone who is unfamiliar with it?
JG: I describe it 2 ways…
#1 an alternative and transition to being free from cigarettes.
#2 as a hobby/community of people we like to call Vaping/Vapers and we bond over a rebuild and a cloud.

With that said, I would like to end this blog by extending our most sincere appreciation to Otto Carter for allowing us in to his home; and for elevating the elegance we enjoy offering to this community.

The VapeRev family recently took a trip to the Quest Learning Center, in Artesia, to support the grand opening of Rooted. Rooted is a clothing brand, and is now a store providing a platform for other brands that share the “street wear” style and beliefs Rooted has worked to represent over the last seven years.

When I entered the doors that read “Rooted”, I instantly felt like I was in some sort of hip-hop museum. Mounted on the wall to my left was a display case, filled with old-school boom boxes and stereos. Memories of myself growing up and sitting next to my stereo, with a cassette in the tape deck, waiting to record my favorite song once it started to play came rushing to my mind; and as I continued to browse, the feel-good memories continued to be revisited.

On the back wall, creatively placed, were milk crates mounted in different directions. Displayed within them were different records from iconic artists, classic pairs of Adidas, and other mementos from urban history. Memories of the hip-hop videos flooding MTV in the early 90′s came to mind; I enjoyed the old-school ambiance I was experiencing, and my curiosity was growing.

When I had the opportunity to speak with Eric, of Rooted, I began to understand the meaning behind their old-school urban décor. He explained to me that he and his partners “embrace our past, and we developed into the people we are because of our backgrounds.” They had grown up listening to hip-hop, appreciating the simplistic, yet statement making style the entity of hip-hop possessed. Choosing their “shop style” wasn’t hard, it was a choice to display influential items; items, and steps taken, in the urban culture that Rooted didn’t want forgotten.

“Kids today are tainted with social media, they see everything for face value, yet don’t understand the background of the attitudes or styles they’re displaying to society. They don’t understand where hip-hop started, or the amount of hard work it took for the genre to get where it is today; we want to give that history a chance to exist in today’s youth.” Eric expressed Rooted’s reasons for choosing the Quest Learning Center as their location; and I really began to respect the thought process of the gentlemen behind the smooth, swag Rooted brand.

As I continued through the store I stepped into one of Quest’s dance studios, being used by Rooted during their grand opening, and I caught a sign that read “silk screening: two designs, $20″; and once again, the memories came to mind. The last time I had seen a silk screen press, I was in high school. Friends of mine were trying to make a little extra cash selling t-shirts with images of brands that began in a high school screen printing class.

After choosing the images I wanted, I watched Dewey carefully create the t-shirt I had designed. I began to consider the hard work and dedication it must take, to begin a brand, and continue representing or redefining it until it becomes everything you imagined it could be. Rooted understands the process, and welcomes other brands, like Sick Star, to their shelves because they share their dream of “doing something big” in the community, and fit with the urban culture Rooted represents.

The Quest Learning Center is a great place, dedicated to empowering the minds and creativity within our youth; and with plans to expand, Rooted picked the perfect place to plant their seed. As Eric reminded me, “once a seed is planted, its’ roots will grow.” Well ladies and gentlemen, we are the roots of the youth today. May we all make the moves to improve our daily lives, while embracing those memories, moments, and those roots which define us.

We were invited by Jamie Liu, of Heavy Hitters Magazine, to accompany them at AutoCon.  The VapeRev team met up with the Heavy Hitters crew in the Macy’s parking lot a couple hours before the event began.  As we burned under the hot sun, we scoped out the plethora of suped up rides all waiting to be showcased.  Jamie took the liberty of sharing some pretty interesting pictures with us,  which kept us entertained to say the least!

As we entered AutoCon, I noticed Richie, of VapeRev cruise by.  I wasn’t sure it was him though, so I walked to his car and peered in.  Guess what?  It was him!  He was representing Team Nuisance racing crew for the day.  What a pleasant surprise!

Myke, Fred, Jeff, Paulo, EJ, and I got to represent Vape Revolution for the day.  After setting up our juice tasting bar and device showcase table, we started spreading the word that vaping was there!  We were surprised that some of the people attending had already heard about VapeRev.  We also turned a lot of new people on to us.  All of the attendees enjoyed our flavors and many of them ended up buying their very first mod.  It was exciting to see how interested people were in our offerings.

As I looked around, I saw beautiful BMW’s, Mercedes, Lamborghini’s, and Porches.  Some very attractive import models were showing off in front of the cars and later on were showing off our devices.

EJ and I were doing juice tastings continuously since we got pretty busy.  But in between all of that, I was offered some Crown Royal Whiskey; which I didn’t say no to!  Thanks for the shot Rob!

The day was hot, fun, and successful.  Thanks again to Heavy Hitters for letting us roll with them to AutoCon!

EJ and I showed up at the Candlewood Country Club in Whittier, California in the morning to set up our VapeRev juice tasting booth.  After looking forward to this golf event with the City of Cerritos for some time, we didn’t anticipate the rain forecast. We realized it would be hard to walk around without an umbrella so we went into the golf shop to buy one.  Wow, it was the most expensive umbrella we’ve ever purchased!  It was a very sturdy one though.  After using it one time, the rain subsided and the clouds unveiled the sun. The rest of the day turned out to be surprisingly nice.  We got to rub shoulders with the other Cerritos Chamber of Commerce members and really appreciated their hard work for putting together this event.

As a Hole Sponsor and a Birdie Sponsor for this event, we were able to invite Tony from VapeRev, Ashley from One West Bank, Michael from State Farm Insurance, and Ryo from Miura Restaurant in Lomita to come and represent Vape Revolution in this golf tournament.  After checking in, they enjoyed a day on the golf course, zooming around in their golf carts, and got to have a little something- something at every hole.

Tony had some good strokes throughout the day and ended up getting a gift card for making it closest to the pin.  Michael ended up with the longest drive and got to shoot for the million dollar hole.  Did he make it?  No, but it was fun trying; not to mention the margaritas, Jack Daniel’s, and other perks he got along the way.  Ashley and RyoSan didn’t win anything, but that’s okay because they could always go to Miura in Lomita to have the most exquisite sushi ever, if they wanted to.

The people stopping by our hole got to sample juice flavors and build rapport with us.  It was a collection of business owner’s in Cerritos and several of their colleagues.  Many of them had never heard of vaping, so we explained how it’s a healthier alternative to smoking, and they were excited with this newfound option.  They were surprised at how Oreo by Ben Jonson’s Awesome Sauce actually tasted like Oreo, Sweet Lovin‘ by Mr. Good Vape was such a delicious strawberry flavor, and how minty fresh the Menthol by Midas tasted.

Lunch was provided by the City of Cerritos and we also had a lady in a golf cart drive up to our booth and ask if we wanted a beer.  Both EJ and I had one.  I started feeling pretty good and decided that I didn’t want to miss out on all the fun, so I asked Paulo (our photographer) to let me drive his golf cart around the course so I could check up on the guys and join in on the fun.

We stopped at a hole that was sponsored by Chamber Wamber where you could buy a round of Patron tequila shots and win an Old Ranch Country Club one-year membership or Angels Tickets donated by Konika-Minolta.  Right when I was considering it, our team rolled up to play the hole, so we decided on a round!  The ladies at the hole were very delightful and we all enjoyed each other’s company while partaking in the festivities.

Then we stopped by a hole sponsored by Caramia Gelato and had some smooth creamy taro gelato.  I made sure I got a cup to bring back to EJ.  After returning to our hole, I stopped by “next door” at the Fremont College sponsored hole, and got a relaxing complimentary massage.  What a wonderful day!

Everyone got to put on their sombrero at the end of the tournament as a testament to the theme of the day.

After the tournament, we attended a banquet and got a lot of love from the businesses in the City of Cerritos, with free giveaways and such.  Sitting with a full stomach and new friends, that day couldn’t have been better!

Having Doc Dave visit SoCal was definitely a delight! A delight for our guests, a delight for the VapeRev team, and a delight for Dave as well! While the Doc was in, we released his Mini-B and Mini Micro, and the down-to-earth nature Dave possesses kept him on the floor for most of his visit!

While on the floor, Dave really took his time talking to people. It was nice to see the sincere interest he has in the community, and the time he spent to build personal relationships with the people who are a part of it.

The vaping community has thrived on people taking the time to be hands-on, helping one another become familiar and feel confident in their vaping. When guests had questions, Dave would answer them to the best of his ability. When guests expressed issues encountered with rebuildables, Dave would share his tips for resolution; different things discovered through his own vaping experiences. He had a bag of replacement glass and spare parts to go along with the attys guests had purchased; and even accommodated some by removing and replacing isolators.

Doc Dave is certainly an asset to this community, and a real pleasure to spend time with. Once we got him off the floor, he let his goofy side have its’ time in the spotlight, too!

Since it was Dave’s first time to California, we wanted him to have the chance to enjoy some of the awesome scenery Cali has to offer. The beach was definitely on the to-do list, and he enjoyed his fun in the sun! Then again, I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t enjoy a beautiful day at the beach, with a great vape in hand!

Although his trip was short, the quality of his company was enjoyed by everyone who had the chance to interact with him. Doc Dave is just an all around cool guy to chat with, so if you ever get the chance to holler-hit him up! I know myself, and all the others at VapeRev really enjoyed the time shared; we look forward to all the things he’s working on developing back home in Missouri, and genuinely appreciate him taking the time to visit us in Cali! VR:  Hi Dave, it’s really nice to finally meet you and to have the chance to speak with you; I have heard your name mentioned so many times. How are you today?

DD:  It’s nice to meet you too Celina, and thank you for asking. I’m good, really good actually, and I’m glad we’re getting this chance to chat too.

VR:  I don’t want to keep you too long, so are you ready to jump right in to some quick questions?

DD:  Absolutely, ask away!

VR:  Awesome, here we go. How long were you a smoker?

DD:  I smoked for quite a while, about eighteen years.

VR:  Where were you introduced to e-cigarettes?

DD:  At the mall actually, there was a Green Smoke kiosk selling started kits for $170, but I wasn’t going to pay that for something that seemed so basic.

VR:  So what did you do?

DD:  I went home to research online and found The Riva. It wasn’t as expensive, and I just ordered it.

VR:  Smart move, I like to save money too! So how long have you been vaping?

DD:  I’ve been vaping for about two years now.

VR:  A lot changes in two years, what mods are you using now?

DD:  I use my Chi_You the most, but I like the Titanium Adam and my Caravela a lot too. The Caravela is a mod I am proud to own, and use, because they’re so hard to come by.

VR:  Do you have any favorites when it comes to juice?

DD:  Kind of, but my favorite is probably the Peach flavor I mixed myself. I used a lot of Pink Spot flavors when I started vaping though. I think Janes Wild Juices,  Pear O’ Melons and Jamaican Me Crazy were my favorites back then.

VR:  I think a lot of us start with Pink Spot flavors, I really liked Frozen Lime Drop. Now I’m stuck on Banana Pudding by The Plume Room though. So what was the first rebuildable you used?

DD:  The Orion, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a Hellfire. After using them though, I just wasn’t completely satisfied; that’s why I created The Bliss. I wanted something that would perform well and be reliable.

VR:  The Bliss is where it began, but what’s different between that and your Steam Turbine?

DD:  There are small changes. It holds more liquid and I played with the air holes on it. Aside from that, the window cut outs are different as well. I tried to change the look of the atty up some.

VR:  We will be releasing your Mini-B and Mini Micro this week, which we’re really excited about! But I heard that you might be working on a mod though, care to share?

DD:  Oh, yeah-Uncaged. It’s going to be a powerhouse hybrid, I’ll tell you that. I’ve done my best to create a quality line of atomizers, and I feel like it’s time to move into mods. I’ll make more attys and accessories, but I’ve got so many projects going on right now, I’m just trying to focus on the consistent and quality production of what I currently offer.

VR:  Fair enough, I’m sure there will be quite the buzz about it considering it’s going to be the first mod you make! So what experience do you have that led to your, well received productions in the e-cig world?

DD:  I’ve worked with metal my whole life, I used to work as a millwright so I’ve got a lot of experience with the construction and maintenance of machinery. It definitely helps with the line of work I’m in now though, because I know what a machine can, and can’t do. I feel like my history in machining has made me really confident and capable when it comes to making my products. If you can dream it, chances are I can make it.

VR:  With the industry continuously changing, I’m sure you’ll have plenty of dreams come about that you can create. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me, we are really looking forward to having your company at VapeRev!

The Mini-B and the Mini Micro are the latest creations by Doc Dave. They are both genesis type rebuildable atomizers, but they are the smaller duo in comparison to the Bliss and Steam Turbine. Made of stainless steel, they both look flush and sit beautifully on a 14500 mod.

Both the Mini-B and the Mini Micro have dual stacked air holes, meaning there are stacked air holes on either side of the atty. The Mini-B does have the option of a second top cap, providing you with a single air hole on either side, as well. Air holes and air flow are completely related to personal preference, so the option of dual or single is a nice addition with the Mini-B.

With both RBA’s, you have the choice of building your wick as a single, dual, U wick, single coil or dual coil. This allows for plenty of options and different approaches to perfecting your build. Perfecting your build will allow your atty to perform in the exact way you desire. The tanks are made of pyrex glass, but the Mini-B does have the option of a stainless steel tank as well. The Mini-B holds about 1.2 ml of liquid, where as the Mini Micro can store about .8 ml of liquid. Although small, don’t let the size of these attys determine your expectation of their performance; they are both extremely appealing and can provide you with exactly what you want from an RBA!

Razor Backs is a barber shop that provides quality cuts, for every man. If you’re looking to get cleaned up, or want a fresh look all together, the gentlemen at this shop can turn your intentions in to a reality. Slide into the barber’s chair, slip away from the mundane; and find yourself enjoying the experience at Razor Backs Barber Shoppe.

I can’t count the times I’ve said, “I wish I could just shave my head” – truth is, some ladies do, I’m just not ballsy enough to be one of them. Does that mean that all men have it easy? Fellas may have more options, but they can go through the same frustrations as ladies do. Finding a hairstyle is a challenge for women and men alike; not every man can pull off the shaved look, and not every man can confidently carry a crisp parted style with steeze – it just depends on the man.

Then the question of where to get cleaned up comes into play. With barbershops few and far between now a days, where do men go? For fear of being “girly”, salons are a no-go for some guys, and Super Cuts or similar businesses have a reputation of being “quick and cheap” – but where’s the quality in that? Why should men have to forfeit their masculinity for a quality cut, contrarily why would men want to pay anything for something mediocre? Guys, give yourself the opportunity to check out local barbershops, they do still exist, and the one I’m discussing today is someplace you’ll definitely want to check out!

A few of the VapeRev consultants are regulars at Razor Backs Barber Shop in Long Beach, being curious about what a “man’s shop” meant, I tagged along. Alex & Paulo, of VapeRev, both believe the spot to be “masculine and classy” and after arriving, I would agree. Scotty “cut throat” Serrata and a few of the other barbers are regulars at VapeRev, so I was greeted by familiar faces, but I was the only female in the building. No doubt about it, masculinity filled the shop, from the people there to its’ presentation as well.

The shop itself has an appealing throwback décor. The barber stations have classic, antique-like chairs for their clients to kick back and relax in while getting groomed. There’s an urban twist with tattoo art sporadically placed along the walls; which vibes with the style of Long Beach and creates a very comfortable feel inside. Paulo, of VapeRev said, “my first time here, I felt like it was my barbershop, I knew I’d be back; it was an inviting and relaxed place for men. I was even offered a beer while I waited for a barber.”

Manly attributes create subtle style, described by Scotty as, “an expression of us – the people here, and who we are. There’s a lot that reflects our interests and style as individuals, we didn’t really choose an atmosphere we wanted to represent.” Ensuring that organic vibe felt upon entering the shop. “The shop just came together. After removing the trash that was left behind by the last tenant, I sanded down all the cabinets and refinished them, wanting that ‘old school’ feel to remain. I refinished the floor, didn’t like it, and started to sand down what was done – luckily for me, visitors liked the raw look of the stamped cement, so I left it like it was. It actually flows really well underneath the vintage barber chairs we’ve got.”

For those gentleman out there who aren’t looking for atmosphere, take advantage of the “classic cuts and shaves” – the quality services provided by barbers like Pedro, Scotty’s business partner at Razor Backs, who has 26 years of experience. Pedro believes that “our haircuts are our first priority. We want everyone to feel like they’ve got exactly what they wanted after taking the time to sit in our chair – which goes hand in hand with our client service, which we maintain and continue to hold very highly as well; but realistically, with haircuts, it’s all about first impressions. If you want a visitor to become a regular; sincere care for that client and they’re satisfaction is a must.”

The men of Razor Backs are professionals, their process of each cut is quick and efficient; but their attention to detail is what highlights their care and consistent quality when cleaning someone up. From clippers, to scissors, and even straight razors; Razor Backs does it all. They even trim your eyebrows during the session as well! Jason, of VapeRev said, “I don’t feel ashamed or embarrassed for wanting to look nice. It’s expected and encouraged by the men here – and they understand a man’s needs, which says a lot about the overall attitude within the shop.”

While I was there hanging out, I saw a very diverse group of people take their turn in a chair; each of which concluded their visit with “see you in two weeks man”, followed by a friendly handshake or hug. The clientele was content, and consistent. John, one of Pedro’s regulars said it best, “I teach cosmetology and hair care at Golden West; I come to Razor Backs because Pedro & all the others guys here are that good!” Prior to opening Razor Backs, Pedro and Scotty developed their own product line. Their intentions in creating the Imperial Barber Products was “to have hair products that did what I wanted them to do, we were tired of other products advertising one thing and just not performing. Our products are good, and our clients’ testimony lets us confidently believe that.”

Alex, of VapeRev, got the full treatment. He spent about 35 minutes in Scotty’s chair and fully enjoyed every minute of it. His first feeling after taking a seat was “relaxed, excited for the straight razor shave, and comfortable; the chairs are sick!”

Scotty started with the basics, buzzing the tops and sides. He was focused the whole time, which was appreciated by Alex. He followed up with trimming his eyebrows before starting in on the anticipated straight razor shave.

After taking the time to lather up the shaving cream, Scotty pulled out the straight razor and began the very precise process of cleaning up Alex’s face and neck. The idea of having a razor blade so close to my neck is kind of nerve racking – but for a man, I can see the appeal in a classic, clean cut shave. It’s an old-school art that deserves the recognition for the skill it takes to provide.

While Alex was enjoying his time with a warm towel wrapped around his face, Scotty took the time to enjoy his vape break. “I started vaping about 5 months ago, but got caught up in the hobby really quick because I liked it, this actually worked for me. I tried the pills and the patch, and they just made me feel crappy. Since I started vaping, I feel better all around. I can actually taste my food now, and being a barber I feel a lot better not having my hands smell like crap after taking a smoke break. Plus, I can vape inside, which is kick-ass for the guys working in this shop. We’ve all moved past cigarettes and started vaping.”

So, at the end of my barber shop experience, I still wish I could just shave my head. If not more now, than before. Scotty, Pedro and all the fellas at Razor Backs were really cool people to talk to. We talked about musical instruments like the diddleybo that Joel actually made himself! We talked about 70′s horror movies that Joel & Billy enjoy kicking back to watch with a beer after work. I talked to Johnnie about cutting hair being his “plan B”; but after falling in love with the work deciding to roll with his passion pursuing at Razor Backs. But of course, the conversations always returned to vaping. We tried each other’s flavors, gave suggestions for wrapping different kinds of coils, talked about the latest “hot” item we got, and discussed the products we want. The trip to the shop was without a doubt, an experience for this lady – for all you men, I can only imagine it being so much more rewarding at the end of your trip. Take a couple hours and do something you deserve to enjoy; meet some new people, make some new friends, just go get groomed by the guys at Razor Backs Barber Shoppe!

Another Coachella has come and gone. This year we were fortunate enough to be part of an awesome party weekend at the Saguaro hotel hosted by REVOLVE clothing.

The energy was incredible, the colors were vibrant, and the people were amazing!
